Establishment of the Team
Talented 10th grade students in our school gathered together and established Team Akana. (10.10.2023)
Meetings with METU Students
Meetings were arranged with METU students and ideas were taken for the course of the project. (15.10.2023)
Interviews with TÜBİTAK Researchers
The team members organized interviews with researchers at TÜBİTAK Marmara Research Center to get deeper information on the topic. (30.11.2023)
Meeting with the District Directorate of Agriculture and Farmers
Interviews were organized with the District Directorate of Agriculture and various farmers to obtain information on the tassel and ways of controlling it. (05.01.2024)
Extraction of Cuscuta and Production of Cellulose
After the methods were determined, the necessary lab permits were obtained for cellulose extraction from cuscuta and the steps were started. (10.01.2024)
First Workshop
We organized our first workshop about our project for the students at our school. (15.01.2024)
Bioplastic Production from Cellulose
After obtaining enough cellulose from tassel, bioplastic production methods were researched and started. (16.01.2024)
Preparing a School Panel
We have prepared a school panel to raise awareness about plastic pollution. (16.01.2024)
Banana Day
For additional cellulose production, we served bananas to our schoolmates and asked them for the peels, thus raising their awareness about waste management. (17.01.2024)
End of the Production
We have fully produced our bioplastic. Our plastic of about 6 cm2 can hold up to 800 grams. (24.01.2024)
Applying for Analysis of our Bioplastic
We visited the Marmara Research Center (MAM) to carry out the official work required for the analysis of our bioplastic (24.01.2024)
Creating Our Website
In order to connect with a greater number of people, we took the initiative to develop our website through coding and design. (25.01.2024)
Science’s Star Girls
We gave a seminar to students from all over the country who participated in the Science’s Star Girls, a social responsibility project to support gender equality in education for our school students. (29.01.2024)
